GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) is an important step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 – To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. GBV remains one of the most widespread and generally accepted form of human rights violations because GBV poses a substantial risk to women and girls physically, emotionally, and socially, and her economic empowerment. However, in the fight to end Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), all individuals, both men and women both male and female genders, professionals, associations, organizations and the family have pivotal roles to play. This is why the WARIF educational session on the prevention of campus sexual violence is being introduced to your tertiary institution. The objective is to increase the students’ understanding of GBV, identifying forms of GBV, change the narrative of toxic masculinity and equip participants to effectively, prevent, and appropriately respond to cases of Gender based violence.
