The European Union – United Nations Spotlight Initiative: Prevention of Campus Sexual Violence is a project initiated by the European Union and the United Nations. The focus is on eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls in Nigeria. Women At Risk International Foundation (WARIF) being an implementing partner on the UN Women Spotlight initiative project, is responsible for working with tertiary institutions within Lagos state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to address student related gender based violence in various campuses.

The Spotlight Initiative is a global, multi-year partnership between European Union and United Nations to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030. Launched with a seed funding commitment of €500 million from the European Union, the initiative represents an unprecedented global effort to invest in gender equality as a precondition and driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Women at Risk International Foundation, (WARIF) is a non-profit organization founded in 2016 by Dr. Kemi DaSilva-Ibru MD; MPH in response to the high incidence of sexual assault, rape and human trafficking occurring amongst young girls and women across Nigeria. The Foundation was established to raise awareness and address the prevalence of this problem through the “WARIF Approach”- a unique holistic method of tackling Gender Based Violence through the development and implementation of a series of initiatives, targeting both the intervention/treatment of these affected women, as well as providing preventive measures in education and community service to reduce the high incidence.
